Maastricht was the first labor and industry city of the Netherlands. With the foundation of various large industries, from 1830 on the fortress town, got a completely new identity. When thinking about possibilities to work in Maastricht, you need to remember that almost 20 % of the Maastricht population in total are involved with higher education in the city as students or employees.
Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. Churches, city walls, monumental merchant houses and big squares marge seamlessly with a comprehensive and varied range of shops. Over the past decades, it has changed from a quiet provincial capital to a vibrant, international student city with a renowned university medical center, a health campus, numerous start-ups, a city center with enormously divers shopping possibilities, beautiful hotels, countless terraces and many artists who start a studio in town after they graduate.
The primary languages spoken are Dutch and the local Limburgish dialect, although most people do speak English. Although the weather is sometimes rainy and windy, the city has a variety of activities going on at all times!
